There’s one sentence I hear constantly before a family session:

“My children just won’t stay still.”

And I always answer the same thing:

Perfect.

Because the most meaningful memories are rarely born from perfection. They come from real life.

From uncontrollable laughter. From an unexpected hug. From a child hiding behind their mother. From a baby messing up their father’s hair. From a tired but deeply loving look.

That’s exactly where the magic happens.

The problem with chasing perfect photos

For years, we’ve been sold a very specific idea of family photography:

Still children. Forced smiles. Everything perfectly arranged. Everything perfectly clean. Everything perfectly controlled.

But years later… do you know what truly moves people?

Not the pose. Not the outfit. Not the fact that everything looked flawless.

What truly matters is remembering who they were.

How they hugged you. How they ran. How they laughed. How they looked at you when you were still their safe place.

Your children won’t remember what you were wearing

They’ll remember how they felt.

And that feeling also lives inside photographs.

That’s why during my sessions I’m not looking for perfectly still children or families pretending. I look for connection. Movement. Natural moments. Life.

I want you to look at your photographs twenty years from now and feel:

“Yes. That was exactly us.”

Because that’s worth far more than a perfect but empty image.

Family photography also tells your story

Many mothers arrive thinking they need to lose weight first. Sleep more. Feel better. Wait for the “right moment.”

But the truth is your children do not see you the way you see yourself.

They see:

• the person who comforts them
• the one who hugs them
• the one who makes them feel safe
• the one who is always there

And one day, they will be grateful to have photographs with you. Real. Natural. Without artifices.

Even if you don’t fully realise it yet.

The most emotional photos are rarely the planned ones

Sometimes a family’s favourite image is:

Small moments. But enormous ones.

That’s why I work by leaving space for things to happen naturally. Not by trying to control every second.

Because real connection cannot be manufactured. It can only be felt.
