When to do a newborn photoshoot? A complete guide so you don’t miss the moment

There’s something many parents don’t know…
and when they find out, it’s often too late.

The newborn stage —your baby’s first days of life— passes in the blink of an eye. And yes, this is exactly when those special images happen: your baby sleeping peacefully, relaxed, just as you imagined.

So if you’re thinking about booking a newborn session, there’s one key thing you need to know from the start:

The ideal time: between 5 and 12 days old

This is the perfect window for a newborn photoshoot.

Why?

Because during these first days:

  • Your baby sleeps deeply most of the time

  • They still keep their natural curled position

  • It’s easier to gently place them without forcing anything

  • They are calmer and more relaxed

All of this allows for natural, delicate and safe images.

After two weeks, sleep becomes lighter, babies are more awake and active… and the session changes completely.

What if my baby is already older?

That’s completely okay.

The session will simply be different.

We’ll work with a more natural approach:

  • Eyes open

  • More interaction with parents

  • Fewer poses and more real moments

And that has a huge value too.

When should I book the session?

Ideally during pregnancy, preferably in the second or third trimester.

We don’t fix an exact date (because babies decide when to arrive), but we reserve a spot based on your due date.

This way:

  • You secure availability

  • We can plan everything calmly

  • You’ll be ready when your baby arrives

What if my baby hasn’t been born yet?

Then you’re at the perfect moment to book.

In fact, most families who get these kinds of images do so because they planned ahead.

A session without rush, without forced posing

My way of working is simple:
to respect your baby’s rhythm at all times.

I’m not looking for perfect photos.
I’m looking for you to recognise yourselves in them.

To remember what it felt like, what it was like, how everything began.

If you’d like to secure your session during your baby’s first days, feel free to get in touch and we’ll check availability.

I’d love to be part of this special moment.
